A Resident Spotlight For Our Paper Boy Jim!

At The Hazelwell, we believe that every resident brings something special to our home and this month, we are delighted to shine a light on Jim.
Jim recently decided he wanted to give something back to the community that he now calls his own. With his usual quiet determination and warm sense of humour, he took on a role that has quickly become a cherished part of daily life at The Hazelwell. Each morning, Jim sets off on his newspaper round, delivering papers to fellow residents and helping everyone start their day feeling informed and connected to the world around them.
It may sound like a simple gesture, but it has made a meaningful difference. There is something comforting about the familiar rustle of a newspaper and a friendly face at the door. Jim’s daily visits are often accompanied by a cheerful greeting and a short chat, which many residents look forward to. For some, it is the highlight of their morning. For others, it is a gentle reminder of the routines they have enjoyed throughout their lives.

Adding a lovely personal touch to his new role, Jim’s thoughtful daughter surprised him with a special hat to complete his “uniform.” The hat has quickly become a talking point around the home and suits him perfectly. It reflects not only Jim’s pride in what he does, but also the close support and encouragement of his family. We always value the partnership we share with relatives, and it is moments like this that show how small acts of kindness can ripple through the whole home.
Our team have noticed how much confidence and purpose this daily routine has given Jim. Having a sense of responsibility, no matter how big or small, can positively impact well-being. It encourages independence, strengthens friendships and creates a genuine sense of belonging. Jim’s newspaper round has become a lovely example of the community spirit we are so proud of at The Hazelwell.
Residing in our care home in Wirral is about far more than support with daily needs. It is about holistically supporting our residents to live with meaning and joy. By encouraging them to take part in the life of the home in ways that suit them, we help nurture confidence and connection.
