Residents in Armchairs

Talk on Local Leasowe Lighthouse

This month, residents at Hazelwell were visited by the lovely Janet, from Leasowe Lighthouse. Janet is an expert on the historic lighthouse which is less than 20 minutes from our home, and kept our residents engaged as she shared wonderful stories about its history.

Situated on the Wirral Peninsula in Merseyside, England, the lighthouse was built in 1763 by The Mersey Docks and Harbour Company to guide shipping safely to the Port of Liverpool. The Leasowe Lighthouse is significant for its purpose as well as being the oldest lighthouse built from bricks in the United Kingdom.

The talk evoked an abundance of memories for our residents; it was wonderful to hear them reminisce about local walks and being a member of West Kirby Sailing Club, sailing on the Dee Estuary. We believe it is extremely important to build connections in our community and ensure our residents can still do all the things they love to in and around or local area.

Leasowe Lighthouse is managed by a group of volunteers. Click here to find out more and view the Facebook page for the Leasowe Lighthouse.

We strive to create an Activities Programme that motivates our residents. If you would like to find out more about day-to-day life at Hazelwell Care Home, click here to read about the facilities available or get in touch with our friendly team.
